work visa finishes soon, new WP not ready

Hi,
it's a bloody shame that instead of applying for the ILR I now have to go through this hassle. But anyway...

The thing is, my work visa finishes on the 10th of September and I'm not sure if my new work permit (with the same employer, but for a different post) will be ready by then. Therefore, I'm not sure if I'll be able to send in the FLR application before the end of my current visa.

What should I do?
Is there any period during which I can remain in the country in between the visas? Or I am supposed to leave the country on the day my old visa finishes unless I sent in the FLR application?
