**Name Change in Indian Passport, pls advise***

Gurus,

I got my 2nd extension done successfully two weeks back.

As my passport was about to expire in the next few months, so I applied at HCI London last week for passport renewal and got my new passport today.

The problem is my old passport have only Given Name[Shows my full name] and Surname field was empty [mistake done by passport office when I got my passport 10 years back]

Now I got that fixed in my new passport and now its correctly showing my Given Name and Surname.
Example:

Old Passport
------------------
Given Name - Jack Smith, Last Name --------- ********Not Correct******

New Passport
-----------------
Given Name - Jack, Last Name - Smith ******Correct******

My query is do i need to inform UKBA about this change?

Gurus please advise.. As I ll be traveling to India soon...

I have been through this website before, but it doesn't helps much, very confusing. Talks about name change after marriage and all and is not relevant to me.

Senior Gurus please advise?

They have mentioned after marriage for an example (if any name change)
* name (eg because you’ve got married)
The best way is call up UKVI and clarify with them rather than any assumption.

I think you should get an official document form your passport office about this that the name was incorrectly mentioned but in the new passport this has now been fixed, this will be sufficient.
But the question is that how did you write your name in the visa forms when your passport didn't show your surname? If you have been filling in the forms with the surname according to your old passport, then you agreed to the name on your old passport, in this case I think for you changing your name is a better option, that you have changed your name.
