citizenship requirements

Post by rogerroger » Mon Feb 07, 2005 4:43 pm

i just copy pasted a section of the home office document, hope i have not broken any law
"These are tight conditions, which will be
applied rigorously. However, we will make
further changes to increase the economic
benefit to the UK of permanent settlement, and
bring its requirements closer to the rights and
obligations of full citizenship.We now require
much more from those who wish to become
citizens – they must pass a residence test; be
intending to make the UK their home; be of
good character; and pass an English language
requirement and (from later this year) a test of
knowledge of life in the UK. These requirements
are related to the factors that are most closely
linked to migrants succeeding in the UK and
becoming economically active, and are intended
to encourage greater social integration."

i was wondering what the following meant
1) they must pass a residence test;
2) be intending to make the UK their home;
3) be of good character;
4) and pass an English language requirement
5) and (from later this year) a test ofknowledge of life in the UK.

how can we prove these points. my one year on ILR is gonna be up in august, and i am surely gonna apply for naturalisation before they make it even more tough.

what is a test of knowledge of life in the UK? i know all the tube lines, i know all the main stations in london, have not been to john o groats or lands end though

catwoman24_1400, yes it does .... the requirements concerning language ability and ... yet to be introduced citizenship tests ... applies equally to those married to British Citizens .... as to those who are not.

For both groups the language requirement was changed significantly as from late July last year.
