Life in the UK test

Post by tier1extension » Sat Jun 18, 2011 9:34 am

how do you best prepare for it? there are three official materials:

Life in the United Kingdom: A Journey to Citizenship - 2nd Edition
Life in the United Kingdom: Official Citizenship Test Study Guide
Passing the Life in the UK Test: Official Practice Questions and Answers

1. Can I just skip the first one and buy the other two and just focus on answering the practice questions and answers to save cost, time and still pass?

2. Should I forget about other study guides being sold online?

3. How long on average should I budget to study and prepare for the test?

Personally I would skip the first one. You'll only have to answer questions from Chapters 2-6 inclusive. I would be wary of online study guides as there's no guarantee that the content is correct.
Study time depends on your ability to recall facts and figures.
Remember that you also have the option to listen to the questions through headphones during the test while reading from the screen.

No expiry date, but make sure you keep the pass certificate in a safe place. If you lose it the test centre won't provide a duplicate.

You can buy this book from Amazon thatcomes with a practise CD

This is a good place to do the test models online

Read the book - chapter by chapter and do the CD that comes with the book - keep doing some test online at the above site everyday.

All the best.

hi, i took this test last month. I didnt buy any guides or practice questions. I downloaded the official study guide online through google which was a pdf file. then i took practice questions through various websites online.
I think u might want to try that if u want to save some money. the test is not very hard as long as you read the material thoroughly and practice repetitively

You need to:

1) Read only examinable chapters, they are all available online:

2) Practice the questions using: weblink removed

You do 1) in the first day and 2) twice in the second day and you will hopefully pass easily.

Cheers

I studied for my test the same way as tunde10; however, I would recommend the approach of reallyfedup.

It should only take you 10 minutes to complete the test if you don't do a review. I believe the cost of the test is £50. Note that in some test centres (not sure if this applies to all), you need to wait for all the applicants to complete their tests before they will hand out the certificates (either pass or fail).

Not a tough one...

Post by be_sure_2000 » Wed Jun 22, 2011 1:36 pm

Hi,

I havew passed this test on last saturday and it was not a real tough job.

I would suggest you to try to attempt couple of mock tests and then you would understand what type of questions do you get and then you can read the chapters.

As suggested by other members practise tests at Hiren's site and they are good.

Wish you all the best.

Many of the people applying for ILR/AN told me that they purchased books and practiced on-line:

I failed twice and in the end went with an online course. It took me a month to prepare and then passed; they have a good reputation for teaching at xxx academy. Good free addon for ielts and i didnt pay for practise tests.[/url]
