seperation from Irish spouse and right of retention

hi all
my friend has separated from her Irish husband after three and half years ( no formal separation or devorce) ,the husband is moved to UK. the question is: her residency permittion will expires next January. how could her renew it and what should she
do to to new it?
any contribution will be highly appreciated
