Green card to stamp 4

Post by afkar » Fri Mar 13, 2015 4:47 pm

Hi guys,
I have green card permit which was issued to me on December 18, 2013 but it took me a while to get the visa sorted for my spouse and little one so I landed in Ireland and registered with gnib on 18th march 2014. I recently visited gnib for renewal and I was given a visa till 17th of December 2015 which means I will not be able to finish the required 2 years on green card to apply for stamp 4. I have heard few people saying one can get the stamp 4 if they been working in Ireland on green card for 21 months, now the tricky part is, if I calculate it from the day I 1st registered with gnib to the expiry date I will be 1 day short of 21 months, which is quite unfortunate.
Question here is what happens when I go there in December to renew my visa? my green card permit will have expired? what happens then?

plus, introduction of new system means we need a letter from DJEI as well when should I write them to get the letter? I'm totally confused and not quite sure how I should approach it. any help is highly appreciated. thanks :)
