Irish national trying to get a PPS number for my non EU citizen spouse

Hi folks, I'm an Irish citizen who has been resident in the US for the last 8 years looking to get a PPS number for my spouse, a US and Brazilian citizen, and we have been married for 5 years.

Would love your wisdom or experience on the latest procedures on this one as what we have been told thus far has been conflicting in places.

We are currently in Ireland. Just relocated. My spouse entered on a tourist 90 day visa as we were not sure if we would move back this time around.

You cannot get a PPSN whilst on a tourist visa (unless you can show that you need it for a specific purpose, for example, purchasing a property here and wanting to pay property tax). You should visit GNIB or your local Garda station to get a Stamp 4 for your spouse, and then apply for a PPSN. Once your spouse has a Stamp 4, he/she can say that a PPSN is needed in order to take a driving test, or to take up a job.
