Grandparent born in Ireland, parent not registered and now lacks capacity

Hello there
Does anyone have any knowledge or experience of this?
Both grandparents born in Ireland
Father born in UK, birth not registered in Foreign Register, Citizenship not applied for
Father now lacks capacity (Alzheimer's), I have Lasting Power of Attorney

I have his birth certificate and birth certificates for both grandparents

What do you want to know? Your father is an Irish citizen by birth, and you are eligible for FBR via either your grandparents or your father. You have your birth certificate, your father’s birth certificate and your grandparents’ birth certificates, so what’s the issue?

Yeah as the other poster said, your father does not need to be registered on the FBR, as he was an Irish citizen from birth through his Irish born parents. You are applying for citizenship through his citizenship, if that makes sense. Also, sorry to hear about your father's health issues, Alzheimers is an awful thing.

Thanks both very much - I had thought that in order to *claim* his Irish citizenship, my father would have to be registered on the FBR.

Which seems to imply that he needed to be registered and I need to include the certificate.

Your father is Irish. He was Irish from the day he was born. He doesn't need a FBR certificate.

You on the other hand are not and need to apply through FBR. The day you are granted the certificate you will become Irish.

The key there is in the phrase "if your parent became an Irish citizen through FBR". Your parent did not. Your parent was a citizen when he was born to Irish parents who were born on the island of Ireland.
