urgent: P21 requirement for citizenship application?

Post by ashimashi » Mon Oct 13, 2008 10:00 am

Hi,

Got a letter from INIS asking for the usual additional documents (applied in May 06). One of them is P21 for 2007. I am running my own business and hence am assessed on an Income Tax basis rather than PAYE and P21 doesn't apply to me. I have a copy of the long tax assessment form for year 2007 (NA1 IT) - do people in INIS understand that it's the same as P21 for self-employed people or will they throw a hissy fit? Anyone had a similar experience?

Cheers
A.

Ashimashi,

They must understand the difference between different tax statuses i.e. - "self-employed" and "paye". Do write to them clearly that P21 is not applicable as you are "self-employed". You will have to send Notice of Assessment for 2007. Try to get a color print out from ros website.

Alternatively a letter from your accountant may help. It must state that

"Ashimashi of address ______ is self employed. He/She is director of company XYZ at address ______ with irish vat reg no. _____.
As per his/her tax status of self-employed, the Notice of Assessment (and not P21) is applicable and provides the complete tax summary. "

Why they have asked for birth affidavit again? I think they have a standard procedure of requesting these set of docs in order to delay the processing of applications. My suggestion would be to tell them to look into the file rather than resending it. You can also attach a copy of acknowledgement (if you recd one) of birth affidavit sent earlier.

Please keep the forum updated and send me a gift  for this invaluable suggestion when you receive passport.

Ashimashi,
When they asked for bank statements and payslips, how many did they ask for? Most recent one? Last 3 months? Last 12 months?

payslip x 3, statement x 3, p21 x 1

Heybabyy, thanks for your advice. I just sent my NA1 IT back with a note explaining that P21 doesn't apply to me, hope they have enough brains to understand that. I also got another affidavit, it's quick enough and I don't want anything delaying it at this stage.

Will let you know as soon as I hear anything.
