General permit instead of critical skills

Post by ok998 » Mon Aug 07, 2023 10:41 am

Hello to everyone

I am a Chartered Accountant from Pakistan and I got offer but my organisation is planning to file general permit instead of critical skills permit. I am also a member and have 3.5 years of the experience of auditing.

As per SOC 2421 it is stated that "
  • Chartered and certified accountants, and taxation experts specialising in tax, compliance, regulation, solvency or financial management or related and relevant specialist skills, qualifications or experience.
Qualified accountants with at least three years’ auditing experience, who are full members of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA) and the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan (ICAP) and whom have relevant work experience in the areas of US GAAP reporting and Global Audit and Advisory Services and the employment concerned is in MNC Global Audit Services.
Tax consultant specialising in non-EEA tax consultancy and compliance with a professional tax qualification or legal qualification with tax specialism, and has a minimum of three years’ experience of tax consultancy requirements and regulations in the relevant non-EEA market
      "

I am also a member and have 3.5 years of the experience of auditing. The reason for not applying is that I dont have US GAAP experience. Many of my friends who are also member of ICAP and they also dont have US GAAP experience but they got critical skills permit recently.

Can you please guide me how they get the critical skills permit and whether do I have chance to apply it?

Further can you please state how much time will general permit takes to process? Will it take more time than the critical skills permit? My organisation says that it will take 4 weeks only.

You might be better off asking your company these questions. Ask them if they attempted Critical Skills at all and so on.
CSEP (Critical Skills Employment Permit) is less hassle for employer, since they don't have to conduct the needs test/advertise the position locally and so on; the only benefit that comes to mind about general permit is ability to keep an employee longer, but if a person desires to go, they will; not much point in that.

According to https://enterprise.gov.ie/en/what-we-do ... ing-dates/ , as of today there are the same dates per both types of permit for standard employers.

I have asked my company. They told me that if you provide us with the US GAAP experience letter then we will apply CSEP otherwise we are going for general permit.

I can't tell you if you have the chance to get a certain permit or not in this case - I'm far from accountant and don't have any knowledge about the SOC code you specified. If they wish to get you a GEP, you can't change what company counsel will put in the system.

And yes, it takes time to be processed, plus they have to make decision on the application and so on. Take these times with a grain of salt and monitor this page if you wish.
