Gap between IRP renewal dates

Post by weinys » Tue Jul 15, 2025 8:54 pm

Anyone has had any issues with applying for naturalisation. Just realising so many gaps between renewal dates on my cards :(
How can i make up for the gaps?
and this is further delaying my citizenship process. I thought i was ready to apply this year

02-Sep-2019 to 20-Sep-2020 = Stamp 2

Time between Stamp 2 and Stamp 1A was due to my change in status being under approval so I am not sure if thats reckonable, I started working during that time though.

11-Dec-2020 to 11-Dec-2021 = Stamp1A
28/12/2021 to 28/12/2022 = Stamp 1A
07/04/2023 to 27/03/2024 = Stamp 1A
09/08/2024 to 04/08/2025 = Stamp 1
02/07/2025 to 04/08/2026 = Stamp 1

Any advises will be highly appreciated.

The gap between 11 and 28 Dec 2021 is reckonable as it falls under the Covid arrangements.
Other gaps are not reckonable. In addition you will need to explain why some of these gaps are several months.

I never thought in so much detail. It was always the local immigration office taking time to give appointments.
I thought this wouldnt matter as i was employed throughout assuming i was legally residing. Would this make up the gaps?

The citizenship office will simply do things by the book. They won’t count any gaps between permissions unless there are clear legislations backing it up (e.g. the gap during Covid).

Furthermore they will ask you why some of the gaps are so big, which may delay your application if you don’t tell them the reason up front. There’re 4 and 5 months of gap in year 2022-23 and year 2024. You can simply mention this in a cover letter explaining that you booked the appointment before your permission expired and that was the earliest appointment you could get from your local Garda office. There is no way to ‘cover the gap’ and submit your application earlier unfortunately.
