Irish citizen with PRSI & NI contributions

Post by mokoflynn » Thu Oct 27, 2011 5:39 pm

Hello, I'm a married Irish woman living and working in England. Although I'm some way off retirement age I'd like to consider stopping work fairly soon. I have 13 years full PRSI contributions from Ireland and 14 years full NI contributions from England. Does anyone know how a state pension would work? Can I combine these qualifying years when the total reaches 30 years and claim the English state pension (30 required in England), or do I qualify for part pensions from both countries? If from both countries, are the pension amounts pro rata based on the number of qualifying years? Any help would be gratefully received. Thanks a million! :?

EU pensions
If you have worked in Ireland and one or more EU state your social insurance contributions from each EU state will be added to your Irish social insurance contributions to help you qualify for a social welfare payment. More information about combining your social insurance contributions to qualify for a state pension is available.

i hope this helps.
