Good News! I just received my FBR and all of my supporting documentation in the post today! My FBR says I was entered into the registry on December 18, 2020, just as they were going into lockdown. There was no email telling me that the documents were coming.

FBR Documents Accepted: 27 September 2019
FBR Confirmation of Address Email: 17 December 2020
FBR Entered into Registry: 18 December 2020
FBR Congratulations Email: none
FBR Certificate and Supporting Documents Received: 22 April 2021

The good people in Dublin are definitely clearing the stack of FBRs which were approved but not posted.

Feels good to be officially Irish!

Address confirmation on 16th December and nothing since.
Sent them many e mails but no luck. I am just worried that we are based in Asia and we might lose documents in post as we dont have best postal service.
Me and JGCLANCY are in same batch i guess lets see when we will get it.

After receiving my documents back out the blue and sending an email to the FBR team, it was confirmed to me today that I was added to the FBR on 9 April and I am now an Irish citizen.

Documents Received: 28 November 2019
Proof of wife’s pregnancy given (due Aug 2021): 8 February 2021
Documents returned: 17 April 2021
Confirmation by email been added to FBR: 20 April 2021

Good luck to all still waiting for their application to be processed (and apologies for skipping the queue due to the pregnancy!). I am now just awaiting my certificate being posted.

There is obviously people working behind the scenes somewhere to try and clear the backlog hopefully. I havent applied for my Irish passport yet, waiting for the back log to clear abit. However my UK passport is pretty much of no use to me either at the moment it only has 7 or 8 months left on it. Does anyone know how to go about applying for a new one from overseas? I looked on the gov.uk website and it all looks simple enough except i have to send in my old passport but An Post dont cover sending passports overseas in their insurance...do i just take the risk and send it tracked with An Post to the UK or does anyone have any other ideas? I know im not intending on travelling for the rest of the year but i would like to get it sorted in case i need it in an emergency as all my family live overseas in New Zealand

Nothing yet. Not holding my breathe since even when I get the FBR cert. it'll be a few months to get the passport. It will be nice to be able to apply for passport online eventually ( instead of in person ). Be nice to get back my birth certificate too!

When I contacted them in February they asked me to send on headed paper from midwife, proof of pregnancy including expected due date to fbr.consular@dfa.ie

I now have all my documentation back but as yet no FBR certificate. Once this is posted out I’ll apply for a passport.

Here's my time line as it is, so those who are still waiting know its not just them and there is me and others. I've watched on here and even prior to lockdown 2, mine was well behind others.
People were being approved whose documents were received in Dublin well after mine, so I expecting it to be a while. I'm not stressed though as it will happen when it happens, and I can't work in Europe at the moment (which was the main reason for applying).

My time line is :-
Application submitted online: 15 May 2019
Email acknowledging receipt of documents (Balbriggan): 29 May 2019
Confirmation of address email: 14 December 2020

The language on the application seems pretty clear that's required, but I'm reluctant to put my passport in the post given that (a) for my foreign birth registration I only needed to provide a certified copy and (b) time limits are pretty open ended at the moment. Can't find any references to this anywhere else

I applied with a paper application from Canada and confirmed with the Irish embassy here that a certified copy of your passport is fine

Hi Danny,

I had exactly the same question so I messaged the live chat page. The passport office is happy to accept a certified copy of your current passport providing the signatory is from one of the approved on the list. Solicitor doctor, teacher etc.
I quite agree - it isn’t clear on the form at all.

For those waiting for a passport, I applied online on 23 December and submitted my documentation two weeks ago. My son did his online 30 March and also posted the supporting documentation at the same time as me. Both our applications are now showing as being processed, although my progress bar is a lot further along than his - so there is definitely activity going on behind the scenes!

I sent in a certified copy of my British passport. Received my Irish passport two weeks later no questions asked.

I have read news articles of frustrated people that havent seen their passports for 2 years stuck in the process line.

I just scanned the photo page with my personal details. That has all the info needed including your passport number.

My timeline is I applied to FBR for my children in December 2019 and got the acknowledgement emails on 27th December 2019 and no comms since. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that someone is working lots of overtime in the office to get things moving - the backlog must be enormous!

I believe today is the first day you can do so from the United States as a first time applicant. Didn't take very long, but will have to secure a witness to my application tomorrow. It sounds like Ireland will be transitioning to Level 3 May 10th without flat out saying it will be going into level 3. What the public will be permitted to do come May 10th aligns with the regulations of level 3 as outlined in the "National Framework for living with COVID-19". If this is true then the FBR should be back at the offices processing applications.....
