And all references to specific ceremony dates have been removed:

“Further ceremony's [sic!] are due to take place during 2019. at the Killarney Convention Centre, Killarney, Co. Kerry.”

" Invitations will issue at least four weeks in advance of the ceremony to ensure everyone has adequate notice. "

So clearly October at the absolute soonest (and even that seems unlikely)

It could clear both houses in a week as an urgent bill, which it has been described.

See link (and others):

https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.iris ... 3fmode=amp

It has to clear the Dail, then the Senate, then onto the President for sign off.

There may be amendments concerning length etc, but I doubt there will be any opposition - consensus is that this is an embarrassing oversight best forgotten.

If the bill is introduced straight away, as the minister promises, then we could have a ceremony by the end of October. If they want 2 more this year, start of November is really the latest timeframe (to give sufficient time to invite December’s batch).

I suspect they will want the new law in place before the original verdict is appealed on October 8th, as this would safeguard the govt from further legal defeats/action.

Question: Why we have to wait for this ¨DECISION"IF if we are already approved and paid?
Why this hole mess is affecting us?

You are not 'approved' until you are sworn in. The letter clearly says that the minister 'proposes' to grant you naturalisation, subjecting to you attending the ceremony. There are only a small number of applicants who paid in June but did not get into that ceremony. It would be illogical to hold a ceremony in Killarney for these applicants alone.

The only thing that I would blame them on is that they could have foreseen that there is no chance that the September ceremony can go ahead. It's ridiculous that they only remove the ceremony date today (and even on that they try to make it subtle instead of just having a notice asking everyone to cancel any planned trips in September).

The fact they removed the dates instead of saying September 30 ceremony has been cancelled until further notice makes me very upset and clearly shows what they think of us

I cancel the hotel booking for 29 Sept.

It look to me that there may be only one ceremony more in this year either late Oct or mid Nov.

The five possible option dates for future ceremony can be
  • 21 Oct 2019
  • 28 Oct 2019
  • 4 Nov 2019
  • 11 Nov 2019
  • 18 Nov 2019
The approx minimum waiting time is 40 days and max will be 68 days.

Having only 1 ceremony would look quite bad on them. The current backlog requires them to have 2 ceremonies (and 2 big ones in Killarney where they can hold more than 2,000 applicants each time) - hopefully one before Brexit. They could even have 2 consecutive ones - 1 on Friday and another one on the next Monday. Saves a lot of logistics.

I think they will keep the Dec 9 date if poss, as the hall has already been booked.

I have a sneaky suspicion that the next date may already have been reserved with the hotel, as they may have *provisionally* booked a date when moving the Sep 30 to ensure availability.

I’m in NI, but a brave should could chance a call to test the theory lol

I think they will go last week Oct/1st Nov if possible

What made you think of those dates? Previous ceremonies over the years?

On a side note, would anyone know if we are to bring our existing passports (from Uk) to the ceramony? Mine is up in April next year. Was holding of renewing on account of citizenship & Irish passport but starting to panic and being left stranded

Lord alone knows what will happen with Brexit! I’d get it renewed before that honestly. I’m pretty sure Irish citizens wouldn’t need a visa to visit the UK but hey- if your UK passport is a lifeline, its always a possibility. I’m not sure re visa restrictions in various places between Irish and British passport holders but you’re better off having both ‘just in case’!

You bring a valid form of ID - be it a passport or a driving licence.

Yes. Normally they do the large ceremony on Monday so I select all the Monday that can be possible.

Minister says that
"I intend to introduce the Bill in the Oireachtas as soon as the Houses of the Oireachtas return to session."

So the Irish parliament start working on 17 Sept and I assume there will be no problem and the new bill will accepted in this week.

Then they will announce the date of ceremony 4 weeks from 23 Sept which will be 21 Oct.

Now assume the delays if one week delay then 28 Oct and if two week then 4 Nov and so on.

I guess you want to say you cannot renew your driver licence? Why not? It's not like that they will take your old licence away while printing your new licence.

Yes that’s what I meant

I gave them my gnib card. So they cannot Renee my license because I don’t have proof that I’m legally resident. Broken system. Nobody is willing to help me. I don’t want to ask for my gnib back because I don’t want to give them a chance to delay me

Try applying with your current passport and show them a copy of the ‘approval’ letter requesting your GNIB card + proof of payment + proof of sending them the info (+ proof of receipt).

Sorry- don’t mean to side track. Looks like they have a lot on their plates.
1. 1 year continuous residence
2. Brexit
3. PPS Care issue - https://www.irishexaminer.com/breakingn ... 50181.html

Now if that can go to the press and probably get everything expedited, maybe the press would be interested in the citizenship by naturalization bit?

Just yesterday, the Guardian posted something on the citizenship aspect: https://www.theguardian.com/politics/20 ... membership

Genuinely cannot see Sept going ahead- they have stuff to sort out re legislature of the bill to law + the 4 week notice period.

Got in touch with a friend who applied in April and hasn’t received anything a receipt/ref number and a friend who applied in May very recently got to the second stage of her application.

So, does anyone have a best guess based on something solid for A. Where the next ceremony will be (I mean they have been held in other locations too) and B. When?

Or do we just wait for an invitation and see at this point?

It depends on how long it takes for the new bill to become law.

On the Dail website you can see some timeline examples. As this will be an urgent Govt bill it wil skip the consultation process and could pass immediately, subject to amendments. It’s not a contentious issue and will likely be waived through, as most of the discussion around time limits etc will have taken place beforehand.

Then the bill must be ratified in the senate. The website has examples of this process taking place over 2-3 days. It then is signed off by the President, which usually takes a week, but as this is a formality I would imagine they will begin preparations as soon as it clears the senate.

It really depends on when they introduce the bill. I would imagine they will want the amendment in place before the original case returns to the high court on October 8, which could place the ceremony at the end of October/early November.

But we will need to keep a close eye on Dail proceedings next week - the sooner the bill is scheduled, the sooner the ceremony.

As in previous Inis announcements, they were telling the people not to postpone hollyday travels if booked any. As a july’s judge decision which says that if a person was absent from the state even a single day, they are not allowed to apply for citizenship. So i just wondering, why inis tell people to go for hollydays. I presume that they make the people deluded
