They found the perfect reason to delay everything. They have over 15000 applications pending. Most 2019 applicants haven’t even received a application number so they can slow down on people calling or emailing about their application

I just pray that they get it together. People are left in limbo because of this citizenship department.
15,000 applications pending? We should go on a strike.

It looks to me that they are waiting for court appeal hearing, which will be on 8 Oct.
May be the court overturn the last decision but I am not fully sure.
If they will not pass any bill by next week then there will be no ceremony in Oct and will have to wait for Nov

INIS will need to amend the legislation to remove ambiguity, regardless of the appeal verdict. Even if the strict definition of continuous residence should be rejected, there is still no legal basis for ministerial discretion to be used when approving applications. Without this amendment the govt would be vulnerable to future legal challenges, e.g. why allow 6 weeks of absences but not 16? etc. This was the crux of the original case and the catalyst for this sad state of affairs. Which makes me more convinced that if possible the govt would prefer the legislative amendment to be in place before the appeal hearing.

The minister’s recent statement in the Times implies that the govt is intending to agree on a precise absence total (despite which it is likely that the amendment will be worded to enshrine discretionary power rather than an exact figure, to avoid having to revisit the legislation at a later date).

Oct 2021 if Addison all judges aren’t appointed before the 8th of Oct!

Yes eraylankester.. No two ways about it!

Dail Eireann resumes on Tuesday 24 Sept 2019 at 2 PM.

They have sections 3 days a week Tuesday,Wednesday and Thursday.

For next week schedule there is nothing for the citizenship bill

If there’s nothing for the following week (beginning 1st October) then it will be a late November/December ceremony for sure.

Or Dec 2021.

Folks
Believe it or not, all we need is an organized protest against this unfair treatment towards regular tax payers like us.
I think I ll have to discuss this with my friends and take some posters and stand outside their Burgh Quay office so that at least that can make them think that they are doing something wrong and utterly stupid.
I mean isnt it stupid passing judgements based on literal meaning of the word continuous? Plus on top of that the minister is using stalling and delaying tactics. How frustrating!!
If they can do something for Brazilian students from eden college, doing a protest in dublin city centre and abolish the stupid re entry visa because of the people protesting outside their offices, they must do something for us as well.
Let's not be an easy target to their political stunts and unfair treatment at least.

You are protesting against the wrong people. INIS and the justice department did not want this judgement at all. It was the judge who went rogue. It is not up to the justice department to decide when they can bring their new legislation to Dail and then Seanad, and finally to the President.
If you really want to protest, protest against the judgement, or protest against the Dail who has not yet put the focus on this.

You are wrong I am afraid. Even before the judgement delays were being witnessed by applicants.

I am surprised to see, someone got an email reply. Other posts here are scaring me though. If this cannot be resolved before 2021, I might basically be forced to relocate due to bloody Brexit. I am refusing to apply for Settled Status from the UK Home Office in order to be allowed to stay in my home, with my family, in my job and community after paying taxes here for 26 years. I opted to apply for Irish Citizenship instead, since I feel pretty much Irish already anyway. If I have not got Irish Citizenship by the end of 2020, the HO could make my life here difficult and even deport me, as I would then be an illegal immigrant. I would move across the still non existent border then into the Republic but of course for now, I’d rather stay here in the North until I retire. All this could not have happened at a worse time. Very unsettling. Being in Limbo sucks.
Applied: October 2018 as Spouse of an Irish Citizen. In July this year I was informed that my Application is now in its Second Stage.
I am an EU Citizen by the way and have lived in Northern Ireland for almost 27 years. Please let this be resolved sooner rather than later. I am really worried.

I think talk of 2021 is unnecessary, frankly. The govt have gone on record with a promise to introduce a bill, emphasising that it will be sooner rather than later. I think it inconceivable it won’t have passed before the end of the year at the latest.

Although I feel the previous poster’s pain - my wife has been approved and paid her 950 Euros, but will have to pay the HO almost 3k for either ILR or another FLRM in October due to the delay in arranging another ceremony. All for a status which will be irrelevant once she becomes Irish, which could be a few weeks afterwards!

It is one of 32 pieces of priority legislation for the Autumn session. Here is the legislative programme and this is on Page 6. The status is "Heads approved 25th July 2019, PLS [Pre-Legislative Scrutiny] still to be determined."

11 of the 32 bills have either gone through PLS or it has been waived. I guess it will go to the Committee on Justice and Equality to determine if PLS is required. That committee meets this week, but I can't see this on their schedule.

I'm not sure where you get the idea that it is going to be passed this week. It's not.

There are 27 Bills currently on the Dáil and Seanad Order Paper. There are 31 other pieces of priority legislation.

I also call and ask her when you are planning to introduce the bill in the parliament.

She told that hopefully in the first week of Oct.

I asked her is there any chance of ceremony in Nov or Dec.

She told that may be we will get the ceremony by the end of year but currently everything is in air.

Given it's clear that there will not be a September Ceremony, and that we have another thread relating to the high court ruling, can I suggest that this thread is closed?
