Citizenship application and 6 weeks absence

Post by wattm » Sat Mar 13, 2021 2:28 pm

I'm applying for Irish Citizenship (Stamp 1 and 4 for 5 years) soon but in 2018 and 2017, I was outside the country for more than 6 weeks. About 7 weeks in 2018 and 7 weeks in 2017.

I'm wondering if this can cause any issues with my application? Is it best to wait for another two weeks before sending my application?

Also, if this absent is an issue, will I get the refusal before the long waiting period?

You have to substract the full 14 weeks to your reackonable residence, unless those weeks were working related.

This is the reply I got from team 5 citizenship help desk:
"Dear X,

Thank you for your email. When completing the online residency checker
please only input the dates of your Stamps. When submitting your
application absences of more than 6 weeks in any year
need to be listed and a brief note explaining the reason for each absence
need to be submitted your application for naturalisation. Absences
totalling 6 weeks or more in any year will be deducted in their entirety
from your reckonable residence in the State.

If you were out of the country for work purposes for a period longer than 6
weeks, please forward a copy of your P60’s for each year of residence
claimed along with a letter from your employer stating the dates you were
abroad for work purposes to support your application.

Each case is examined on its own merits and submitted to the Minister for
decision. Please be advised that a determination on whether an applicant
satisfies the statutory criteria attendant to naturalisation can only be
made after an application is received.

Regards"
