Citizenship Calculator - Calculation of the dates

Post by youngmoon » Mon Apr 26, 2021 7:14 pm

I will be qualified to apply for naturalization in the next few months as it marks 5 years of my residency here in Ireland. I'm having few doubts regarding the duration calculator

Is the "6 weeks rule" followed by the calendar year or the yearly cycle of the GNIB renewal? For me, it is from November to November.

I've spent the following time on India on holidays but those are paid holidays

1. 2017 - June 1st to July 14th - 44 days
2017 - Aug 26th to Aug 29th - 3 days

2. 2018 - Dec 13th to Dec 31st - 18 days

3. 2019 - Jan 1st to Jan 20th - 20 days
2019 - May 9th to May 22nd - 12 days

If we calculate it based on the Calendar year

2017 - 47 days (5 days extra than allowed time)
2018 - 18 days (within limit)
2019 - 32 days (within limit)

So, I can delay the application for just 47 days and can apply soon. But if it based on the yearly cycle of the GNIB permission, The calculation should be

2016 -2017 = 47 days
2018 -2019 = 50 days

So, I had to wait for another 50 days extra?

Please let me know which method I should follow? Also, while applying, shall I consider the extra spent days alone, or do I need to wait until to complete all the days I've spent during that year?

Calender year in Ireland is normally from Jan to Dec.

So in your case, I would delay the application by 47 days.
