2022 Naturalisation Application response

Post by youngmoon » Wed Apr 27, 2022 12:37 pm

I hope a lot of us submitted the naturalisation applications with the scorecard approach starting this year. Has anyone got any type of acknowledgment or response from the Citizenship department? I'm wondering if no one got any response back? I cannot see any responses back from them on the timeline thread

Let alone 2022 applications, there are plenty of people (including myself) applied after September 2021 and got no acknowledgement. So they didn't even finish the acknowledgement backlog from 2021. Right now I am waiting for 5.5 months to get an acknowledgement.

Only other information from 2021 applications is people applied in Jan-Feb 2021 started to get approvals.

So you have to be more patient (give it like 6 months)

Edit: Just saw an applicant from August 2021, got their e-Vetting results viewed. While there are people from September 2021 got no acknowledgement. So the whole process in places, nothing certain.

Same here, applied late '21, no acknowledgement, nothing. Taken aback by it, to be honest, but nothing I can do I guess.

I think my husbands application was received on the 29th of September 2021 if I remember correctly. We received his passport back on the 11th of November or thereabouts, but we still have not yet received an acknowledgement or application number.

Just out of curiosity, when does the processing time start for your citizenship application ? The day they receive your application ?
the day you receive your passport back ?
Or the day your receive your acknowledgment letter ?

It’s the day they send you acknowledgement letter. There are quiet a few reasons your application might get declined instantly, like older version of the form being used for application, not enough residency days, missing fields in the form that you had to fill. These are all considered when they send you acknowledgement letter, which means your application start to get processed. Till then it just waits it’s turn. Actually, I read that, not enough source to use it as prove, they set your application date when they actually start processing your application.

You sent your application in September 2021, they start processing it 6 months later in March 2022. Then they state your date of application as March 2022 instead of September 2021.

There is a huge backlog, the process is slow, and it’s complete mess up, and they are trying to cover this up by changing your application date, so it won’t look like your application sit idle for 6 months.

Minister’s fantasy was naturalization applications being concluded in 6-9 months. For 2019 and 2020 applicants it was 23 months, and for 2021 applicants it’s 15 months. Which is far away from reality. But if you change the application date, then all the process would look much quicker right? ISD trying to be smart about it :D

They don’t process applications in time, they don’t reply emails in time and when they do it’s not an honest detailed answer it’s just some vague answer. But who would question all this right?

Actually not true, got my passport back with very backdated letter but that's all I received, no acknowledgement and all.

Hi Folks,

Can we email / post in an additional document to support our application after initial submission of our application? I just realised we can request and download a document online which I wasnt aware of at the time of submission, but now I have the doc. My application was delivered April 11th

So I want to add that to the list of docs provided with my application.

Thank you

I sent applications around 16th feb and no response yet. Now i am about to change my address and I don't have application number to tell them so that they can update address on their system. Any suggestions for this scenario?

You can try mentioning your full name, DOB, address you used in your application and phone number with your tracking number that you sent your application with and maybe the date they received it?

I imagine all these details should be sufficient enough to locate your application.

You should have a tracking number from Anpost, use it as reference, also as previous mate said, your address, phone number and name when you send the update, if you are moving, you can get the service from anpost - mail forwarding, it is costly around 90 eur for 3 months, make sure you really need it and order, it is not perfect, it didn't work for me for my IRP cards when I changed address in a middle if my stamp 4 update, so it is costly and not ideal, however those at least something, good luck

Irrelevant to whatever anybody says in this forum I emailed citizenshipinfo@justice.ie to clarify when the processing time of a citizenship application starts. Their answer is below:

Thank you for your email. Date received is the date the application is received at this office.

Brilliant stuff Nala2021, thanks for updating us. Great sigh of relief cause I would've lost 5 months as that how long it took to receive the acknowledgement letter from the date of application received by the department.

Well, that means they contradict the self's, that's what bobi123 user is saying for timeline for 2021:
"Applied Date: Registered post on 31st August 2021
Application received Date: 1st September 2021
Acknowledgement Date: PRIVATE NUMBER Phone call on 16 November 2021, asked for address to return the passport
Second Letter: A letter with an application number received on 15th March, my application received date is listed as 12th march"

Waiting for over 6 months to receive an acknowledgement letter is bang out of order. Total unprofessionalism by the department.
I wonder if we start to see an improvement in processing times any time soon.
At this rate, the turnaround time of 6-9 months that department is working towards to achieve for most applicants this year, seems like a distant dream.

Lately the minister had stopped saying that objective of her department is to process applications within 6-9 months. I will say she realised its not possible.

They have no idea the amount of mental torture most people are going through, the whole system is an utter shambles.

Does somebody exactly know when the processing time starts?

Is it the date application is delivered? or
The date an acknowledgement is sent?

Its been more than 6 moths i haven't received acknowledgement so will the processing time start after they send me acknowledgement?

Thanks

Has anyone who applied in September/October 2021 received an acknowledgement letter and application number? We applied 29th September and still no letter. I really thought by the end of April we would have one as its 7 months now.

I guess stressing yourself and complaining won't help.

From a response from the Minister of Justice (dated 4 May 2022 in parliamentary questions):

"Applications for naturalisation and general queries in respect of same are dealt with in chronological order by date received. When applications for a certificate of naturalisation are received by the Citizenship Division of my Department, they are subject to an initial check/examination. Citizenship Division is currently completing initial checks on applications received in September 2021."

She's now also saying the Ukranians coming to Ireland are also impacting on the speed of the citizenship processing :|
