Procedure when passport expires but IRP is still valid.

Post by Obie » Thu May 23, 2024 8:47 am

I understand that since April 2021, IRP validity is independent of passport expiry, however there is an obligation to notify the department of your new passport.

Does anyone know if the New passport needs stamping or just sending a copy to the department suffices.

What is the current administrative procedure in place.

I live outside Dublin, when I got my new passport I needed to make an appointment with my local immigration office and have them put new stamp on it. They'll also update my new passport details on their system.

There are about 4 or 5 counties that are dealt with in the same way as Dublin, they are Dublin, Meath, Kildare, and Wicklow.

I am wondering whether they need to book an appointment or not.

The website does not give that indication, see question 5 below.

I just want the views of People in those 4 counties, who have done it before.

Hi, precisely that FAQ's 8 says:
If you are renewing your immigration permission and you have a new passport, you do not need to attend in person to have your new passport stamped with your immigration permission. You can renew your immigration permission here.

So I believe you can proceed it online.

If you in Dublin you literally don't need to do anything until you start the renewing..
