refused entry vs deported/removed?

Post by sashep » Mon Jan 17, 2011 12:59 pm

Hi,
I'm currently applying for a post-study visa, and am unsure about how to answer a question:

D23. Has the applicant ever been removed or deported from the United Kingdom?

About 5 years ago, when I was about to start my BA in the UK, I was refused entry because I didn't have a student visa. They took my passport and gave me 2 days to book a flight and return to the US, which I did. I got a student visa in the states and returned to the UK and everything was fine.

Does this count as being removed from the UK?

When I did my tier 4 student visa last year, I answered yes to a question "Have you ever been deported, removed or otherwise required to leave the UK", but the post study visa question doesn't have the "...otherwise required to leave the UK" bit....

I'm not sure if I should answer yes or no to the question, and I don't want it to contradict anything I've said in any previous applications.

Any suggestions? :)
