Child Benefit Appeal & Timeline

Post by ayem » Tue Jan 07, 2014 12:07 am

Hi,

We had a pretty straight fwd application for CB of two kids. Unfortunately, we were at HMRC office for CTC appointment, they saw the original birth certs and said its ok we've signed and will be delivered to right office. After few months wait, HMRC sent a letter refusing the CB becoz of no B Certificates. Though CTC went through fine.

We've called them twice regarding going through decision, they have a very cold response, they say we are but we havent got any letter or havent been asked for Birth certificates either. Still some time left to do appeal in writing.

Whats the ideal thing to do? Appeal, wait or apply again. If appeal, what are the timelines of decision? Its been almost 5 months now already since application.

Thanks a lot.

It usually is, but child benefit can be notorious for delays. Your MP should be able to chase it for you if you have been waiting 5 months, you need that claim as ChB can only be back dated 3 months.
