Claimed Child benefits but returned them all 1.5 years back

Post by baba_G » Sat Jul 05, 2014 6:50 pm

Dear Members of the Group

I have heard a lot about this group and Im writing with high expectations-

We came to UK under tier 2 general category in year 2011, my daughter was born in 2012 and ignorantly my wife started claiming child benefit( which she did for 3 months). The moment I got to know about this , we called HMRC and explained them the complete scenario and stopped the payment. We also returned back the entire money in single instalment. This was in Oct 2012.

We are now heading towards extension, my questions are 2 folds:
1) What should I right in the section asking for benefits?
2) Will it impact our extension application?

I will be highly obliged if you could guide us .

Thanks
BG

Hi Amber,

I and my wife both are from India. The thing is that my company wants me to take same day appointment. Since its too expensive, Im not sure, if I should take this risk or not?

I shall look forward to get your further guidance.

So far as you've repaid the benefit, there shouldn't be an issue. I'd explain it on a cover letter and provide proof of repayment.

Hi Amber

Thanks for your quick response. Its giving me confidence. Just one last question, what should I put in the form when it asks of I have ever used public funds? My concern is that I have read that the moment I say yes, they will outrightly reject my application? sorry, Im a bit tense. Could you please suggest.

Hi Amber

Its the question under Public Finds section-
"Are you currently receiving or have you ever received any public funds in the UK?”

Please suggest what should I reply here. Ideally I have never received any funds as I returned them back with 3 months. Should I say No or yes. I need to submit my application today so would be grateful if you can please advice.

The answer would be yes and include a cover letter explaining what happened and proving that it's been paid back.
