Adequate Maintenance because of carers allowance

Hi last year we applied for a spouse visa and we were declined as my earnings were not £18.600 as they wouldn't include my tax credits.

My dad is seriously ill and has suggested i be his carer and therefore claim carers allowance.

My question is how long would i need to be getting the carers allowance for me to meet the criteria of adequate maintenance.

also what is adequate maintenance as it does not tell you that anywhere and we can't afford to waste any more money.
