Hi - I am a BC and my husband from the Maldvies needs to apply for his ILR in a few months time. My step son also lives here with us but he has already got indefinate leave (i think - his visa ends when his passport ends 4 1/2 yrs - his passport is stamped with no access to public funds, same as his dads) and his visa states we are jointly his sponser so must have been assessed upon me as a BC because he has got longer stay than his dad. I have just been made redundant from my job and looking to claim benefits, however I am concerned that I may affect my husbands ILR visa application.
We are in private rented accomodation and looking at claiming housing benefit and council tax benefit - can I do this?? Also can we claim child benefit for his son and child tax credits. I will also need to claim JSA until I find another job. My husband is currently at college and not working so I was the sole income earner and now that I have lost my job, we have no income coming in and no savings either - it's a terrible situation for us. Please can anyone advise what benefits I or we can safely claim without making a problem for us when we apply for my husbands visa extension?
Thanks
