Child Benefit - am I allowed to claim?

Our first child is here and I'm planning to apply for child benefit under my name I am a British national by birth. My wife is on a 2 year settlement visa. Is the husband allowed to apply for child benefit under their name ? and then mention my wife's name under partners details.

This is the only benefit we're planning on claiming as I've read other benefits might have a negative affect on ILR. Anyone shed some light into this ?

As a british citizen you're allowed to claim anything you qualify for.

shabz_81, have you read the first pinned topic in this Claiming Benefits section? If you read it you will see that there is no problem you claiming Child Benefit, and you and your wife jointly claiming Tax Credits.
