claiming working tax credit and housing?

Post by mobileangler » Sat Nov 20, 2010 11:22 am

Hi guys

Realy hoping that someone here can help me answer this i have asked the UKBA and they are worse than useless.
My question is, i will be applying for settlement visa for my canadian partner we have been together previously in the uk on a right of abode that has expired.
I am a british born citizen and she is canadian as mentioned. we lived together for 3 years and then 7 months in canada this year with me on a visitor visa.
Now i have returned to the uk and found a jobb at last. Starting next week.
Though the main thing is i work in the health and social care sector so low wages unfortunately. i will be claiming working tax credit and housing benefit to top up the wages.
Will this affect a settlement visa for her under unmarried partner? We have been engaged for 18 months already though want to marry elsewhere in due course when its all sorted out.
I read through this recourse to public funds, it is my understanding that i can claim as i normaly would for me only and not her. and she is not allowed to claim as public funds?
Would i be right in thinking this?

Thank for any and all advice
