Advice needed for ILR

Post by Bexsie » Sun Jan 02, 2011 4:01 pm

Hi, This is my first post here and could really use some advise. My husband is here on a settlement visa and about to apply for his ILR. He has passed his Life in UK test and we have collected the majority of the paper work. The problem is that I have just been made redundant whilst on maternity leave. I was due to go back in February, my son is 7 months old. My husband has been unable to find employment in our area as there are very little vacancies although he had tried really hard he just hasnt had no luck. The plan was I would return to work and he would be a stay at home dad. I have now just found out I am pregnant again, so the chances of me finding new employment whilst pregnant are not very high.

I have no alternative but to claim benefits for myself and children. The question is if I was to claim benefit for example income support, housing benefit etc would this stop him from getting his ILR? Also because he hasn't found employment himself would this also stop him getting his ILR?

Thank you so much for your help. We are both very worried and dont know what to do.
