What Am I Entitled To?

Post by jigars143 » Tue Feb 09, 2016 5:30 pm

Dear Members,

sorry if I have missed out the information already out there but I need some help.

I have currently got ILR and sending documents this month to be Naturalised.

Just want to know what benefits am I entitled to. My wife is on FLR(M) 1st extension and due for 2nd extension in 2017. My son is British passport holder.

Can you please advice what Benefits I can apply for...like Working Tax Credit, Child Tax Credit

and will these affect my Wife's visa extension?

Thanks

Try the benefit calculator as we don't know your personal circumstances.

http://benefits-calculator.turn2us.org.uk/AboutYou

Select 'British' to proceed.

Child benefit must be claimed in YOUR name only.

Tax credits MUST be claimed in JOINT names with your spouse.

Thank you CRO01 and Noajthan...I will surely have a look at the above.

If you could answer couple of questions please:

1. Last year my wife was working and since Feb 2015 she was on Maternity and now she has resigned. So if I look into Working Tax Credit HMRC asks about previous year's income...which was about 30k including both of ours. Now this income has reduced significantly as my wife is NOT working...does it mean I will not be able to apply until probably next year?

2. If I do Tax Credits on both of our names will it affect the Visa extension of my wife?

Please advice...

Thanks

1. You will need to call HMRC to find out. But if your last years earnings are too high, unlikely you will get tax credits.

2. No, it won't affect her spouse visa if you claim in joint names

Absolutely correct, and more.

For one of a couple to claim Child Credits in their sole name could amount to benefit fraud. And that could have an impact upon a future visa application.
