Switching from PSW to Tier 2 with temporary contract

Dear All,
I hope I will receive some advise .
I have recently changed my work and received 6 months temporary contract. It should be end in May 2014. Employer told me that probably they will extend my contract more for 6 months or maybe will change for permanent. My PSW visa will expire in August 2014. Can I still apply to Tier 2 even I have temporary contract?
Also, when company issuing sponsor certificate what they promised : to employ me for such period of time or just general confirmation that I work for them?

Any advise will be appreciated.

in order to switch from T1 PSW to T2G you will need a CoS. In the CoS the sponsor must state the period of engagement (work start and end dates) and the length of your T2G leave will be granted accordingly

Hi Mani,

I am working for a compnay for last 2 year. I switched to Tier 2 last year and it was only for a year. Now I have to extend my visa again and want to extend it before new 2015 rules apply.

I now get the experienced salary rate for my soc code (2139) and want to extend the visa for 4 years.

However, my company said they can't offer me permanent contract due to budget issue. But they will offer me 1 Year contract for another year and then make me permanent when the budget issue is over.

So my question is - Are they legal to assign me a COS for 4 years although I have contract for 1 year only for now? My role is always needed in the company at any time and my boss will definitely extend my contract whenever needed.
