Can ICT 2 Short term VISA be extended?

Hi,
Could you please let me know if a Tier 2 ICT VISA can be extended or not? I'm here (in UK) on a short term VISA, but now both my employer and my client wants me to stay here for a longer time. My VISA would be expiring on 17th August,2014 and the VISA is issued from 17th August, 2013. Though the VISA is issued in August, I've come here only in December 2013.

Please let me know other options if a short term VISA can't be extended.

Is it mandatory to have a package of 40K+ if you need to apply for a Long Term VISA, if going for a LT VISA is the only option?

i think you can apply for long term visa only now
you have to return to india and apply for long term and salary should be above 40k
else you can wait for 1 year cooling and apply for short term again

No ! you cannot extend your short term visa anymore and have to go back to your country and apply for Long term visa immediately and get new entry stamp with new income >= £ 40600 p.a
