Should I have gotten a Biometric Residence Permit?

Hello,

I've been here on a Tier 2 General since December 2011. I came from the US.

At the time of my application, I went to a biometric centre, in the states, which took my photograph and fingerprints, and stamped a form (don't remember which exactly), and I submitted all this with my application, which was approved. I was following the instructions of a qualified UK immigration lawyer at the time. That all went fine.

Now I'm looking to renew my visa, and I'm reading a lot about a Biometric Residence Permit. I understand standards were raised sometime after I arrived here, but was I supposed to apply for one of these BRPs as well? No one ever contacted me or my employer regarding this, but the information available online seems unclear whether my previously submitted biometric details are still enough.

BRP's will be issued only if you are applying with in UK (mostly extending your Visa).
For people applying outside UK are still getting the Visa stamped on passport itself..
Probably you will get the BRP next time when you submit your extension in UK
