Tier 2 extension overlap issue

Hi, my Tier 2 current visa expires in 6 months, I want to extend my Tier 2 leave with same employer for another 1 year. Is it possible to apply for Tier 2 extension now for 1.5 years with CoS start date now as after 4 months I have plans to have passport with me, Would that overlap of 4-5 be allowed with the current leave from same employer? Thanks

if you have a new CoS you can apply for an extension any time. The new leave will supersede the old one, there will be no overlap. The start date in the new CoS needn't be now, it can be later.

Thanks manci, does the start date has to be within 3 months from date of application?
