Tier 2 General to Dependent Visa

Hi. I came to UK(Channel Islands) with a Tier-2 General visa sponsored by UK employer and my wife joined me as dependent and also found a job. After 18 months my employer is closing business but my wife through her employer in UK is getting her work permit in Mainland UK. Now i want to switch jobs to join her, can i now become her dependent and what will be the procedure.
My wife got her visa type switched from Dependent to work Permit by just visiting the Home office.
Please can anyone explain this, do I have to go back to India to get the dependent visa?
