Tier 2 Gen Job Change SOC Code

Hello All,

I am currently working on a Tier 2 Gen visa originally sponsored in April, 2014 for SOC 2429: Business Research and Admin professionals not classified elsewhere. I am trying to change jobs within the same company and I am not sure if the new job also falls within the same SOC Code. The reason is that my current job is titled Planning Specialist and the new job is titled Offering Manager and will be a promotion.

My company's HR is asking to verify if the job falls within the same SOC code or if there is a different SOC code. When I look at the Job Descriptions of the new job and 2429 SOC code, they mostly match (more than any other code). However, there is a SOC code 1139: Function managers and Directors not classifed elsewhere. Although the sample job description of this SOC code matches less, it has "managers" in the title as does the 1139 SOC Code.

My worry is that when i apply for a renewal, UKBA might reject saying wrong SOC Code chosen for the job. My question is if the SOC code chosen can be justified based on the job descriptions and will i have a chance to show its closeness to the current SOC Code ?
