Skilled Worker Visa Extension / Late Police Registration

Post by xantrk » Fri May 19, 2023 8:24 pm

Hi everyone,

I will be applying for extending my tier 2 visa in a few weeks. When I arrived to UK during COVID, I misunderstood OVRO's explanation saying appointments not being available for a few months, and no penalty would be taken. I didn't know that still implied me booking an appointment within 7 days of arrival, even though they are in months later.

I booked my appointments around 2-3 month mark following my arrival and managed to register on around 7-8th month following my arrival. Application went super smoothly, no questions were asked by the officer.

Luckily, I haven't seen any nightmare stories about police registration affecting visa renewals on this forum, and given that it went smoothly and now it's completely discontinued I am inclined to think I will be alright. Just wanted to get your opinion if you think this will be a problem (not booking an appointment within first 7 days), and whether or not this should be declared in the application? Please let me know your opinion! Thank you so much

Your failure to register as required at the time is highly unlikely to have any impact on your future applications.

Unless there is a specific question related to the police registration ( I believe there is no such question in the application process) I would not mention the point.

Thanks so much for your reply. There is a question asking "did you ever breached conditions of your stay (overstayed etc) or breached immigration law in any other way?" But I also feel like this is a little to heavy for my late registration

Given police registration is no longer required and I very much doubt it is classed as a breach.

I think if there was a requirement and you failed to meet the requirement, then you had breached the requirement.

If you declare your late police registration, then I think you should be okay.

There is no requirement to declare the late registration as the whole police registration scheme ceased and as outlined in the link above, migrants have been instructed to destroy their certificates. Caseworkers are not required to check previous registration nor do they have access to those records.
