I am asking for my friend. Please help
Hi all,
My friend is currently working with a tuition centre on an annual salary of £32,000. He is looking to extend his current skilled worker visa -- current job code is 2314 (Sponsored by company before April 2024), and he is looking to apply for a role (teacher -- secondary level) with job code 2313.
Since his job title/code is part of "eligible education and healthcare jobs", there are special minimum salary rules. His workplace is based in Outer London, he has a PhD in STEM, and he does not hold a QTS (Qualified Teacher Status). As per my understanding, his salary has to be at least the higher of £23,200 or £24,415 (so, at least £24,415). But IF he is considered a qualified teacher, then his salary has to be at least the higher of £23,200 or £34514 (so, at least £34,515).
Please help me with the following:
1) Does his salary of £32,000 meet the minimum salary criteria, or if he is missing some aspects?
2) What are the factors deciding whether he will be considered a qualified or unqualified teacher during the application consideration? Does the absence or presence of QTS need to be mentioned somewhere in the application?
3) In his last visa application, he claimed points for "PhD relevant to the job + PhD in STEM." As per his understanding, under the new rules, the teacher role (job code 2313) does not feature in the list of jobs that can avail PhD salary discount. Please correct me if I am wrong.
So, should he answer "Is PhD-level qualification required for the post?" with a NO?
Many thanks.
