Skilled Worker Visa Extension - Job Type code change

Post by thisisVicky » Fri Jan 10, 2025 11:15 am

Hello!

I'm now in the window to apply for a renewal of my Visa. I was originally issued a Skilled Worker visa under Job Type "2136 Programmers and software development professionals" (in 2021) which in 2024 was changed to "2134 Programmers and software development professionals".

I still fall under 'Programmers and software development professions' - so my question is, do I need to apply for an Update first, since the code has changed, or can I go ahead with renewing it as it is? Since the change was not in my job itself but on the govt's end?

Thank you so much!

Hi,

I am in the same boat as you. I have the same soc 2136 that I got my visa under and also the code has been changed, only in my case the more relevant code is 2139.
I consulted a lawyer and he said that since this is an update from the home office, there is no need to update the visa. Just apply for an extension and add a cover letter to your application, briefly describing that the code has changed due to the general update of soc codes from 2010 to 2020, and your responsibilities remain the same. All should be well.

Good luck.
