UK entry passport validity requirement

Post by david1955 » Fri Jan 01, 2010 8:07 am

Hi,
I dont know whether this is the right place or not but I hope anyone can help me with this. Recently i switched from post study work visa to tier 2 visa. Currently i am in india on my holidays and my return is on 20 jan , but my passport expires on 22 feb. Will i be having any problems in coming back, as i heard that for entry on uk , the passport has to be valid for atleast three months.
I didnt got the chance to renew my passport when i was in uk, as i didnt had my passport with me. I thought i would do in india, in india i am trying , but finding it very hard. I having been living in uk for past 4 years.

so my questions are:
will the customs at the airport will cause any problem for me , as my passport is still valid for 1 month?

I hope anyone can help me with this soonly.
thanks

Yes you are right immigration officers suggest you to have 3months validity on ur passport but the best thing you can do now is.. (suggested by immigratoin officer when i asked) is:

Get a letter from your employer that you are working for them and is on holiday and will join them on your return.. i think you can get this letter now before you return so that you have some solid case to answer if immigration officer does not allow you. you can say it is urgent emergency trip so u had to go before renewal of ur passport..
hope this helps

Hi thanks for your reply, but i am already on my holidays in india. I am carrying the employer contract with me, but not a letter. I got my return ticket with me as a proof, as well a bunch of uk visa stamps on my passport. I am trying to get it renewed my passport in india, but over here nobody seems to be helpful and cooperative. I could have got my passport renewed in uk....but recently i got my visa tier 2 and suddenly i made my plans for travelling , hoping i will get it renewed in india.....anymore advice will be very appreciative
