Student dependant seeking settlement in the UK

Post by lawrencenike » Tue Jun 29, 2010 11:11 pm

I am an international student doing a PhD in the UK. As you know the time we spent in the UK with a student visa will not count towards permanent residence. However, when I came to the UK to do my PhD my wife also joined me with a student dependant visa, which has allowed her to work full time in the UK for 3 year with permanent contract as an accountant. Now, I've heard that those years that my wife has spent working in the UK might count towards permanent residence even though she has been working under a student dependant visa. However, we are not 100% sure about this and I would like to find out if it is possible.

Many thanks for your help and I look forward to getting some advice from you

Kindest regards

Unfortunately, I believe that unless you/she change to a suitable employment category, your/her current time spent will not count towards ILR, except under Long Residence.
