Changing workpermit to Dependant visa

Hi,

I'm currently in UK on an work-permit and like to apply for a dependant visa based on my partner's work permit. I've already completed 8 years of stay in UK. I'm concerned if I become dependant based on my partner's visa, my option to apply for Settlement after 10 years will suffer.

Please advice if I'll be able to apply for settlement after 2 years even if I change my visa status to dependant.

FYI, he has another 3 years to apply for settlement.

Please also let me know the required form for this application.

Not necessarily.

But this change can only be done from outside the UK.

I followed your links on the Entry Clearance Guide (ECG). But that is for only entry into UK, I'm still not able to follow why I couldn't apply for transfer of Work VISA to Dependant visa from within UK.

I'm very concerned as any delay in grant of visa will land me in trouble. Is there any other link which clearly states I need to outside the UK to apply for the dependant visa?

Because the law doesn't allow it. Simple!

If your spouse is a WP migrant, then you cannot switch because you do not fulfil 196A(v).
If your spouse is a Tier 2 migrant, then you cannot switch because you do not fulfil 319C(h).
