Fake IELTS Certificate - Visa Refused

Hi

A friend of mine has unwittingly submitted a fake IELTS Certificate in his visa application, he has many other valid qualifications including a masters in English however he did not know the college he went to was bogus.

Is there anyway of rectifying this situation? Appeal Process?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Is this related to ETS?

If he used deception in an entry clearance application, then he would be banned from the UK for at least 10 years, unless exempted.
