Switching from Tier 2 to Tier 4

I have been working at my company for the past 1 and a half years and am considering applying for a PHD.
Will this be a switch from Tier 2 to Tier4 and will I face any issues in switching my visa or will it be a straightforward process?

I don't know where you are getting these names. Both of those visas were discontinued some years ago and replaced with the Skilled worker visa and Student visa respectively.

No-one here knows anything about the merits of your application or your situation, so this is not a reasonable question to ask the general public. I suggest you check for yourself the requirements for switching to a Student visa, and then addressing any concerns to your university.
