Switching from Tier 4 Dependent to Tier 4 Main applicant

Hi

Is it possible to swith from Tier 4 Dependent category to Tier 4 main applicant category as a college student from within UK? My consultant says now student dependent can switch to Tier 4 from within UK now....how true is this because what I have read is dependent has to go back to home country to switch to Tier 4,

If rules have really changed then could anybody provide the link for that.

You cannot apply for Tier 4 in country if you are currently on Tier 4 dependant visa.

Even I am having same question, my consultant had told me the same thing that the visa can be switched from inside the country , is that not true ? I am having 1 yr more student but I want to switch my self dependent on my wife tier 4 will if I am applying that from India will my 10 yr long stay effect be coz of that ?

Well the same has happened to me in 2016. My wife as my dependent switched to tier 4 and I became her dependent within the UK, and now I would like to do the same but the university tells me that I need to apply overseas.
Any solution as I have done it in the UK before?
