Does british citizen certificate supersede biometric permit?

Post by dream123 » Mon Dec 09, 2013 1:40 pm

Hi,
My child and I are currently living in the UK and she has a BRP and non-UK passport and we have just got her BC certificate. The thing is, we are going away for holiday in 2 weeks' time and, we are not sure what documents to show to the border officer when we return. We won't have time to apply for a british passport to get it in time before travel. The above docs is all I have for her at the moment. and I am worried they will not be enough...My questions are:

1. Does the BC certificate supersedes the BRP?
2. Can we still use the BRP at the border to return to UK, even if she is now british?
3. If (2) fails, is there another document that I need to get for my child to easily enter the UK e.g a temporary UK travel doc and where do I get it please?

Thanks for advising.

Technically the ILR ceases to exist once you attain citizenship. So you may wish to consider a British Passport or Certificate of Entitlement.

You can get a child passport within a week (fast track) if you pay extra.

You can also enter using the old passport, BRP and the registration certificate. You might need to spend a few more minutes at the border control while explaining the situation but it's not an issue.
