Just moving over to this board after getting ILR

I will be applying for naturalisation for my UK born child in the next couple of months, and am wondering whether he will be OK to travel whilst it is in process? He has ILR, so no problem there. But I am assuming that once the naturalisation comes through, then he needs a British passport to travel?
Also, when I apply for naturalisation in a year, can I travel whilst it's in process? We plan to use NCS for both applications BTW.
Thanks a lot!

I will just relate my own perspective. My family normally does an annual trip to my home country and has traveled several times to my wife's home country as well. When we decided late last year to go for citizenship for our oldest child and ourselves, we also decided to postpone all international trips, even planning them, until all of the assorted and related details were taken care of; citizenship, passports, everything. Our families are completely supportive and understanding (as, by definition, families should be). This has meant we have no stress with regards to any part of this process. We have been able to carefully go through every step of this journey without having to wonder if we, or our children will be allowed back into the country, or if some existing application would be considered abandoned since we left, or some bit of critical correspondence would be missed - dooming an otherwise successful application - since we weren't present, or worry about any other issues that might arise from having our status in flux and not being present to deal with it. We just sent the related applications off, and didn't think about it again until we got a reply.
I recommend this course of action. It's the easiest, cheapest, and most stress free.
Yes, your child can travel while their application is in process. Also yes, you can travel while your application is in process. I would definitely have somebody around checking your post for anything from the Home Office in case they ask for some extra document (this happened to us, which we quickly got sent to them) or anything else they might want. Also, be prepared for some awkward questions from the border agent regarding your child when you reenter the country. They are just like that sometimes.
