traveling after approval of british citizenship application

Post by arahimpk » Mon Oct 06, 2014 3:39 pm

Hi All,
I have received approval of British citizenship application, however i may have to travel in next couple weeks.
Just wondering what is the law about traveling on ILR after that? can i travel after attending citizenship ceremony using ILR?
I am allowed to have dual nationality.

Thanks all.

It depends on your country isnt it?

I have a similar question.... Am from India and acc to my frnds

India govt allows thier citizens 90 days free time to travel after the citizenship cermony is completed. We are expected to kickstart the passport application if we are ever willing to travel abroad after the 90 day period.

After 90 day period if travel is made again on Indian passport.. Fine will be incurred.

It should be something similar if you are from Pakistan. More or lesss I think I am correct.

I traveled on 2 occasions when I was naturalised and before applying for British passport. On both occasions I just had to show my ILR on entering UK (Stanstead and Luton) and there was no problem whatsoever.
I have dual nationality.
I am sometimes wrong.

Yes, 2 times.
On both occasions I've informed and asked Border official at the airport if it was all right for me to enter UK on my ILR and my old passport even though I am British citizen now having attended the ceremony and both times it was confirmed that it was not a problem.
I am sometimes wrong.

Hi all,

Just some feedback from my experience.

I was required to travel for work after my naturalisation ceremony but before I had a chance to apply for my passport. Like the previous poster I am on dual-nationality.

Initially I had no problems but later when arriving into Heathrow T5 and Heathrow T2, Border Agency had a problem processing my fingerprints. It turns out that once naturalised, your finger prints are removed from the system as you are technically a British citizen.

When I first experienced the problem, I was lucky that another security offical had experienced this before and informed the official handling my case. During my subsequent trips, I had to inform the officials of the same and was told to wait in the waiting area while they checked my docs at the back-office. They would come back and confirm that this was indeed the case.

So while you are allowed to travel, you may encounter difficulty at border control but let them know the situation and it will be fine. Although it is quite frustrating and confusing. Seems a bit silly that your prints are removed though... :?

I travel quite a lot and I was never asked to provide fingerprints.

I have ILR sticker inside my old passport (2005).
I carried naturalization certificate with me but I was not required to show it even though I said I had with me.
