English language confusion

Post by psnlb » Wed May 13, 2015 10:26 am

Hi all

I've been reading in the forum about several citizenship applications and I'm a bit confused now.

Can someone please confirm whether or not I need to submit a proof to satisfy the English language requirement?

I came to the UK 6 years ago under Tier 2 and satisfied the English language requirement through a Toefl test.
I obtained Indefinite Leave to Remain 1 year ago and obviously had to pass the Life in the UK test.

Am I right in assuming that I don't need to satisfy the English language requirement again and I don't need to submit my old Toefl test result?

If yes, then why do I keep seeing people already on ILR submitting proof of English language for their citizenship application??

Many thanks and sorry if I'm missing something obvious! :)

When were you granted ILR?
If it was after 28 October 2013, , you can simply tick the relevant box, on form AN page 7, simply tick the box:
I met the knowledge of language and life requirement to qualify for settlement on or after 28th October 2013;
But take original Life In the UK test sheet at your NCS appointment if you are going to one, Home Office will keep original of that, as in case of approval you'd not need it, ever.
Good luck.

Ah that makes sense! Yes I got ILR in June 2014.

Many thanks a lot for clearing that up!
