Citizenship application prior issue date of PR card

Post by hungolad » Fri May 29, 2015 3:55 pm

Hi all,

I am an EU citizen wishing to apply for naturalisation before the 12 months anniversary of the PR card which I obtained last year. I would have been entitled to PR 4 months before I actually submitted the application but supporting documents did not turn up in time so I could only apply for PR 4 months later I would have been eligible. Due to change in circumstances (starting a course in France) I cannot possibly wait 12 months counting from the issue date of the PR but would like to apply for citizenship 4 moths before that date. A couple of questions have arisen, wonder if anyone can help me out.

Q1 How many years of exercising Treaty rights am I meant to prove? I thought only 5 years are required (only residency matters in the last year) but in the AN form section 2.4 says 6 years. This has confused me. Do I have to submit evidence of exercising treaty rights for 5 or 6 years?

Q2 Since I already have a PR card, am I expected to attached that to the application form? Or can I perhaps write a cover letter and explain my situation and that I applied for PR late and I am entitled to citizenship earlier?

Any help or advice is much appreciated - as usual. Thank you!

There a user Julian and a moderator CR001 has already replied to you. Please take a look.

Q2 has not been answered neither Q1 regarding the discrepancy between 6 years in the form versus 5+1 years, so it's not a duplicate thread.

Your PR card is just as good as a blank sheet of paper if you want to use it before completing 12 month requirement so - no. FYI, Citizenship is not an entitlement but a privilege.
