Hello all!
I have a quick question about BC.
Basically I lived in the UK from 2007 to 2012. Done my high school and sixth form here then I moved abroad to study at the university, my parents have been still living in the UK and I have been coming occasionally to the UK on my holidays. But the question is if I had been practically studying and living abroad (Poland) for 2 years now would I still be eligible for the BC? I have got one more year to do and then eventually I will come back to the UK to do my postgraduate degree. I am 21 years old Polish citizen. Because I have seen that you have to be a resident of the UK for at least 5 years however I don't know if that will be counted or will I have to be in the UK for another 5 years from the next year to be enabled for the BC? Besides after having a BC do you have to live in the UK for your entire life or can you move around? I am still young and don't really have a clue where would I like to stay for good

Depending on your parents' timeline you may have acquired settled status (PR) already due to 5 years residence in UK presumably(?) whilst parent/s were exercising treaty rights in UK too.

But I believe your current absence from UK of 2 years or more invalidates that PR status.

If you do return to UK to exercise treaty rights afresh as a qualified person in your own right, (i.e. 'qualified' in terms of the EU regulations not in education terms), for example, as a student or worker then, yes, the clock to acquiring PR would start again.

Note: There are other requirements to meet too - for example the LITUK test & proof of English (etc etc).

If you ever naturalised as a UK citizen then, no, you are not tied to living in UK forever.
You are in fact as free as a bird with the privilege of our citizenship & a British passport in your pocket - and you would always have the 'right of abode' in UK to fall back on.

yes my dad has been here for over 10 years and my mother for 7. Thank you for the reply, once I'll be back I will double check if I will have to wait for another 5 years or not and yeah I am aware of the language too and hopefully my english will get better by next year Meanwhile I'll remain a Polish citizen with some britishness in me
