Nationality checking service / UKVCAS

I understand the nationality checking service will cease to operate end of December 2018. Does this mean citizenship registration applications (MN1) would go through UKVCAS?

If that's the case would there be an option to retain the supporting documents (for MN1) post verification by UKVCAS?
